Founded in 1873, Atlas Copco has centuries of experience in innovation for sustainable productivity and is operating in more than 180 countries. Today, after 145 years of history, Atlas Copco has become the global benchmark in the manufacture of compressors, equipment, rock drills, and many other product areas.

The platform

This innovative platform consists of four main cores: QA Supervisor, the software for managing the entire quality assurance process; Stpad, the tablet dedicated to line operators; STwrench, the dynamometric measuring wrench; and STbench, the modular, transportable test bench along the entire line. Our designers supported Atlas Copco teams in the development of the QA Supervisor and STpad software.

QA Supervisor

QA Supervisor is a web-based software, which allows quality managers to monitor all the activities of production line operators, as well as the tests performed and the measurement tools used. The quality manager has a tree and topographic view of the entire area of his competence, through which he can obtain, in real time, an exhaustive picture of the situation: from the production line in its entirety down to the detail of a single joint. A notification system, focused on prevention, keeps the quality manager constantly updated, warning him in advance of necessary maintenance activities or possible future critical issues. Through the new dashboard, the quality manager can design widgets and charts according to his needs, with the aim of obtaining data and statistics to support his future strategic choices.

STPad

Through the STpad, the operator can view his route of activities to be carried out on a daily basis. For each individual activity the user is guided, operation after operation, with timely indications, supported by photographs and synoptics. The device also helps the operator during optical checks/visual tests, with the possibility of attaching photographs taken on site.

The project

Our Intré designers and developers supported the Atlas Copco teams in the creation of the QA Supervisor and STpad software. Both projects were organized into Scrum teams.
Our designers collaborated directly with the Swedish design team, starting from user research and defining customer journeys, up to the generation of the information architecture and wireframes of the new product. Once the wireframes were validated, the UI design work progressed incrementally, in parallel with the development work. As for QA Supervisor, the designers were also involved in the creation of the HTML components in order to facilitate the work of the whole team.
